Thanks for the comment! I've got some thoughts on this, apologies for the length:
1. Pro-choicerβs absolutely still argue that human life doesnβt begin at fertilization. Even planned parenthood says on their site
"Questions about when life begins are personal, and itβs just not that simple. For some itβs based on faith; for others, itβs a matter of science or medicine. There is no general consensus."
2. In the case of a PVS, this is different than brain dead. 10-24% of patients with PVS can regain consciousness. We should care for them as humans made in the image of God, not kill them. People in PVS have higher brain activity in response to hearing their own name versus someone elseβs name, **theyβre not dead.**
A. Additionally, if the family does pull the plug on the PVS patient, theyβre simply letting nature take its course. If the person got into the PVS situation because of a horrible car accident or similar for ex, then the car accident is what kills them when the plug is pulled.
B. In contrast, abortion is not letting the process of pregnancy that God designed and upholds take its course, its **intentionally stopping it with horrific means. In contrast to the PVS state,** if you donβt do anything to the baby, the human in the womb grows.
3. Personhood doesnβt begin at a randomly selected spot by pro-choicers, it begins when God starts it.
βBefore I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.β
Jeremiah 1:5
4. The baby growing in a mothers womb can never be claimed as self defense. The baby itself is not acting in aggression towards the Mother.
A. Moving further, killing a child in the womb for a predicted outcome that the Mothers life is in danger is not ethical anyway. If medical staff were trying to save 2 peoples lives from a shooting, and 1 of them was taking a lot of resources from the 2nd one, the doctor wouldnβt be just to dismember the first victim and kill him to make sure the other one lived.
B. All life-of-the-mother situations are medical professionals trying to save 2 lives, and letting natural processes happen. In no way would murdering a baby be the just answer.
