What is Abortion?
Pro-Choice Objections
The Criminalization of Abortion
Part 1. What is Abortion?
Well, What is a Human?
Human beings are unique creatures, distinct and set apart from the animals. As Humans, we are made in he image of God and therefore have dignity and value by nature.
Ge 1:26–27
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, the whole earth, and the creatures that crawl on the earth.”
27 So God created man in his own image;
he created him in the image of God;
he created them male and female.
Psalm 8:3-5
3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
When Does Human Life Begin?
A quote from the Planned Parenthood website:
"Questions about when life begins are personal, and it’s just not that simple. For some it’s based on faith; for others, it’s a matter of science or medicine. There is no general consensus…"1
Hmm…
there’s no…
general consensus?
Biology Disagrees
It is a biological fact that human life begins at fertilization, this is not disputable.
‘“At fertilization, the human being emerges as a whole, genetically distinct, individuated zygotic living human organism, a member of the species Homo sapiens, needing only the proper environment in order to grow and develop. The difference between the individual in its adult stage and in its zygotic stage is one of form, not nature.”2
"The American College of Pediatricians concurs with the body of scientific evidence that human life begins at conception - fertilization…. Scientific and medical discoveries over the past three decades have only verified and solidified this age-old truth"3
What is Abortion?
Well, why don't we try planned parenthood one more time, and see what they define abortion to be? They're the experts, right?
"Abortion is a safe and legal way to end pregnancy…
Abortions are very common. In fact, 1 in 4 women* in the U.S. have an abortion by the time they are 45 years old."4
Let’s Put it All Together
Humans are Made In the Image of God
Human Life Begins at Fertilization
Abortion is Defined by the Ending of a Pregnancy
Pregnancy Itself Begins with Fertilization
What does all this mean?
Abortion is Murder
This is not disputable. ALL abortions are the act of unjustly taking a human life. In other words? Murder.
In fact, since 1973, America alone has killed 64 million children, almost 10X the number of people the Nazis killed in their entire regime.5
Despite this…
Abortion Is not just legal
It's not just an acceptable position to hold
It's not just happening every day
It's not just responsible for the slaughter of 1 million babies every year6
Its Praised and Applauded in Our Streets
Our culture is proud and excited about the babies they are murdering.
Part 2. Objections
Everything I just said should be enough for the entire country to come to its knees in repentance, and yet…people still defend murdering babies.
So it's time to refute the most common objections from the pro-choicers.
1. What About Rape?
Some will argue that abortion is ok when the child in question was born from an incident of rape.
A. What Makes Rape Wrong?
Well, it’s a violation of someone else's body without their permission…
But yet, we can violate the body of a defenseless baby who can't even breathe on their own in response?
B. Killing Children for the Crime of Their Fathers
So instead of focusing on the evil man who raped a woman and who deserves death, why don't we just kill the innocent baby in the womb? That'll solve the problem, right?
16 “Fathers shall not be put to death because of their children, nor shall children be put to death because of their fathers. Each one shall be put to death for his own sin.
Dt 24:16.
C. The Other 97 Percent
Let's just grant that you could murder your baby if it were because of rape.
Rape, incest, and medical complications make up less than 3% of abortions7
Would Pro-Coicers now be okay with abortion being illegal for the other 97 percent of abortions?
Of course not. This is an emotional argument that's used to justify murder.
2. What About Incest?
Some will argue that abortion is ok when the child in question was born from incest.
A. Born Through Unfortunate Means = Less Value?
If you ever meet someone in person who was born from incest, just make sure to tell them that they should have been killed. What a ridiculous argument.
No, just because someone was born from an incest relationship does not mean they are worth so little that they should be killed.
3. What About The Life of the Mother?
Some will argue that abortion is ok in emergency medical situations when the Mother’s life is in danger.
A. Who is Worth More?
We already know that God has made all humans in his image and that we are all equally valuable.
Mothers are not worth more than their children because they're older and bigger. The goal is for both the mother and the child to be saved.
B. Rescue Missions Are Not Voluntary Murder
In the event of an emergency pregnancy (<3% of abortions) where the mother's life is in danger, the medical staff's goal is to rescue 2 lives, not one. They are not voluntarily murdering one person for convenience.
C. Motherhood Starts in the Womb
If you're not willing to give up your own life for your child, you are denying the kind of love that Jesus commands us.
12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
Jn 15:12–13.
4. My Body, My Choice
Some will argue that abortion is ok because it’s the Mother’s choice to do so. This choice is claimed because the baby is inside the Mother’s body, so it’s her body.
A. Yes, that’s the Point
Every human should have a choice over what is done to their body. We're defending the bodies of the babies who are going to be killed.
B. It’s Not Your Body
It's not your body, it’s your baby's body. If it were your body, YOU would die.
C. Choice to Do What Exactly?
If I can translate here, what you're saying is:
"If I want to murder a defenseless human, that's my choice!"
Can you imagine if rapists used this argument?
I get pleasure from raping other people, so its my body we're talking about. My body, My choice!
5. They Will be Disabled/Poor/Have a Bad Life
Some will argue that abortion is ok because it saves children from having a life of poverty or suffering from a disability.
A. Killing the Poor Kids
Apparently, people are only valuable if they have money.
“They'll be poor? Well sheesh, I want to protect my child from that, let me kill them.”
-People who believe this
B. Adoption
Even if we knew, with 100% certainty that your child would be poor, adoption is still an option
It is far better for another family to provide for the needs of your living child than for you to slaughter them.
C. Killing the Disabled
Apparently, people are only valuable if they are healthy
“They'll be disabled? Well sheesh, I want to protect my child from that, let me kill them.”
-People who believe this
D. You Don’t Know the Future
This entire argument assumes that we know for certain what the future holds.
No human has any idea what the future holds, we only know one thing: God’s law demands that we love other people as ourselves. Murdering them off of a hypothetical is not noble, it's evil.
Even worse, who says 3 years, 5 years, 10 years from now you won't break out of poverty? Or who says your child won’t have a fulfilling life with their disability?
This objection is no more than a cop-out to justify what the person wants deep down; freedom from being a parent.
6. It’s Just a Clump of Cells
Some will argue that abortion is ok because at the early stages of pregnancy, it’s not a human, it’s just a clump of cells.
A. Biology Disagrees
‘“At fertilization, the human being emerges as a whole, genetically distinct, individuated zygotic living human organism, a member of the species Homo sapiens, needing only the proper environment in order to grow and develop. The difference between the individual in its adult stage and in its zygotic stage is one of form, not nature.”8
The scientific evidence confirms that the fertilized egg at the beginning of pregnancy is 100% human, the same kind of human as you and I.
B. If It’s Not a Human…
Let’s be generous though, let's grant it’s not a human for a minute. We know DNA is present, but we don't want to say it’s a human.
Let me ask you a question: If it’s not a human at this stage…
What is it then?
If it’s not a human at fertilization, but it has DNA, and the sperm and the egg came from 2 human parents…what exactly is this fertilized egg? A chicken? A fish? Do women create lizards in their wombs now?
C. When Exactly?
Let's keep being generous and go a step further. Let's say that the fertilized egg was absolutely not a human on day 0, and sometime later in pregnancy, it became a human.
Question for you:
When Does That Happen Exactly?
At what point does that child become human, and therefore valuable?
When they get enough organs?
When they are 6 months old? (5 months & 29 days would be too early)
When they can kick? (no legs=not valuable)
When they look like a human?
When they leave the womb? (If they’re still in the middle of the delivery, you can kill them)
Always Valuable
God knew every action we would take before we were even born. God views Humans as valuable from day 1.
13 For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them
Ps 139:13–16.
D. The Waiting Game
But hold on, let's be even more generous. I don’t want to be too harsh on the pro-choicers here.
Let's just say that the baby in the womb was absolutely, 100%, NOT a human until it was born. It must leave the birth canal to become a human.
Question: When a woman gets pregnant…what do we expect to happen in 9 months? A baby to be born.
Even if we grant that the baby is, absolutely, not a human until it comes out of the womb…
Well, what must every valuable human do to leave the womb? They have to go through the 9-month process of pregnancy.
If you cut off the only path for someone to become valuable, that’s still murdering them.
7. If You Don’t Like Abortion, Don’t Have One
Some will argue that abortion is ok because it’s a matter of opinion.
A. So if you don’t like rape, don’t rape?
Can you imagine if you applied this argument to rape? Whether or not someone participates in a crime has nothing to do with whether or not that crime is wrong.
8. Only Women Can Talk About Abortion
Some will argue that abortion is ok because only women can talk about abortion.
A. Ok So Only Men Can Talk About Rape?
A person’s gender has nothing to do with whether or not something is morally wrong. If a man is talking about something that is morally wrong, it doesn’t become right simply because he’s a man.
P.S Roe v Wade was a decision made by 7 men9
9. You’re only Pro-Life Until the Baby is Born
Some will argue that abortion is ok because people who oppose abortion don’t care about what happens to the baby after they’re born.
A. You’re Only Anti-Rape Until It’s Over
People’s actions have nothing to do with whether or not something is right or wrong.
Imagine if rape was legal, and I was trying to abolish it.
Then one of the pro-rapers said "Well if you're not going to help the rape victim after her rape, then rape should still be legal"
It sounds ridiculous when you say it out loud, doesn’t it?
Part 3. The Criminalization of Abortion
So now what? Abortion is murder, and all of the objections have been thoroughly refuted. There’s never a good reason to kill a human being unjustly. We must criminalize abortion.
1. Equal Protection
All human life should be protected equally, regardless of age, size, gender, race, or anything else. Anyone who unjustly takes the life of another should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Justice must be served.
Remember, no matter what…
One day, these dead children will have their day in court.
2. Abortion Should Be Illegal
Since murdering an adult is illegal, murderers rightly fear the consequences of being convicted for their crime. It should be the same way for murdering a baby.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, 4 for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer.
Romans 13:3–4.
We Need to Repent Now
Supporting the murder of babies is not just a cultural issue, it’s a heart issue.
The reason our culture is in love with killing children in exchange for their freedom is that we don’t know Jesus.
If you don’t know Jesus, let me fill you in:
God has graciously blessed mankind
Despite this, we rebel and try to follow our own rules. What happens? We kill babies.
Therefore, God's judgment is upon us (Hell).
However, by God's grace, we have a way out of eternal torment. God himself came in the form of man and died in our place.
If we turn to Jesus Christ with a heart of repentance (regret for what we've done), he will save us from this judgment.
Those who are saved must then lead new lives, yearning to follow the law of God. Your heart will be changed completely by God saving you. Remember, your actions don’t save you, God does.
Let me close this out with Jesus’s own words
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.
Jn 10:27–28
